Mary's passion for caring for children with diabetes developed during nursing school when she began volunteering as a cabin clinician at Camp Midicha, the American Diabetes Association sponsored summer camp for children and adolescents with diabetes. Mary greatly enjoyed her seven consecutive summers volunteering at Camp Midicha and looks forward to being able to return in future years.

After graduating from the University of Michigan School of Nursing near the top of her class in 2015, she began her nursing career at the University of Michigan Health System. She initially worked as a staff nurse on 6B - an inpatient adult general medical floor.

In 2019, Mary joined Dr. Wood as his outpatient diabetes nurse while also attending graduate school at the University of Michigan School of Nursing to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. She graduated from the program with highest honors and achieved her certification as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the summer of 2020 and has continued her collaboration with Dr. Wood.

She then transferred to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in 2016 to work on 12 West - an inpatient pediatric general medical/surgical floor and stable vent unit. Mary's motivation to work on 12 West was to return to her area of passion as it was the floor where children with new onset diabetes were admitted.
